who did your chest surgery? cuz i think scars are stupid -_-"
Dr. Lorne Brown of Richmond, BC did my surgery. Unfortunately he no longer does SRS because he is a private surgeon and the procedures have been shifted into the realm of public healthcare in Canada.
To each is own in terms of surgical preferences. There is no “best” procedure or “best” surgeon, seeing as each outcome and each body is different. It’s totally fine if you don’t want scars that a DI would give you, but be aware that saying something like “scars are stupid” could come off as dissing another person’s surgery which is really not ok.
Just when I was about to give up on waiting in line to get the Fanime badges, I saw you and said to myself, "If I want to take a picture with you, I should endure this long wait." xD Welcome to San Jose, Lucas! c:
6 HOUR LINE BUDDY! We made it through! 8D
Thank you for the welcome, and I hope you enjoyed the con after Thursday’s fiasco XD
hey twin! thank you and the rest of the FFX group for taking a picture with me on sunday at fanime! x) i was the fox kigurumi girl with the tinkerbell who asked for a hug and a picture owo i look forward to running into you again in the upcoming years of fanime! x)))
You’re very welcome! It was our pleasure 8D Thank you for coming up to us and saying hi ;) I hope you had a fantastic con and we’ll hopefully see you next year!
Hey twin, I have a question about the noise at cons. I have a serious issue with being in crowds of people with as much energy that you see at concerts or cons. I want to go to a con so badly and dress up and have lots of fun, but my first con experience was standing in line for hours and giving up because we would never get in and it was very loud. These kinds of things kind of make me go ballistic. Do you have any tips for when things get too crazy at cons?
I get crowd-anxiety, so I can identify with what you’re talking about. Lines are often un-avoidable at cons too, which makes it hard to get away from a crowd if you’re not feeling comfortable.
What I started doing (especially at bigger cons) is taking breathers. We will often take little walks to nearby parks or calmed areas for photos or video shoots. We also often go off con grounds for a meal break. I find that this really helps to relieve some stress/anxiety that comes from being sardined in with crowds of people or having your attention split by so many things. Taking a little breather and regaining your space can be a real help. :)
were do u live in canada! i wanna stalk u. not gonna happen though cause i live in crappy england were u cant get any cosplay and peole will tease the crap out of u if u do. i wanna get a cosplay for my bday but my parents are like NO! so now im totaly depressed. me and my sister love u! and fdp. u and nova make the perfect couple!also did nova have another youtube account name ages ago in 2008 cause i keep watching ur old videos and im like which ones nova?!
Hello! We live in the FARRRR western part of Canada (British Columbia) so that’s pretty far from England :( There are lots of cosplayers in England though ;) just gotta find them! I feel like it’s one of those things where the community is hidden but once you find it you suddenly realize that there are cosplayers everywhere XD I hope you find it!
I’m honoured to hear that you and your sis like the stuff we post! 8D And thank you ;)
A little while ago Nova’s Youtube was under the name “uchihayuna” so that might clear things up!
Hey Lucas! I just wanted to say how much I love you and everyone in FDP for being so amazing at, well, everything. c: But I also wanted to thank you specifically for being such a great role model and being such an amazing source of inspiration. Watching you go through your transition really motivated me, even though I'm not trans it just I don't know to see someone make it out pretty good motivates me in life when things get tough. <3 I hope to see you guys at Sakura-Con next year! c:
Hi there! 8D
Thank you so much! Thank you for supporting us, it means so much to us that people like what we do and we’re constantly in awe of our followers/supports/subscribers. We’re the ones who should be thanking you ;) so thank you! (3 thanks you’s in 3 sentances… XD).
I’m also glad that you could take something from my posts about my transition, even as a non-trans person. I put stuff about that up in the hopes that some good may come out of it :)
Hope to see you at Sakura Con too! 8D Perhaps we’ll see you at Aki Con too? (I’m assuming you’re a Seattle/Washington native here but I could be completely wrong XD)
Hey Lucas me and my friend are going to fanime on saturday and would be honored to meet you. Where would you hang out if we wanted to say hi?
Hello! I’d be honoured to meet you as well! 8D
On Saturday I’ll be Luke (Tales of the Abyss) for the first half of the day and Blood (Alice in the Country of Hearts) for the second half. Both costumes I’ll be in white XD I dunno where I’ll be, but usually we wander the front of the con (fountains), the artist alley or the hallways. I know that’s of very little help, but I will hopefully be doing a con update at Fanime on my twitter, so if you have twitter i’ll try to be tweeting about what I’m doing :)
Hey Lucas. How are you? :] Are you still friends with and/or talk to the friends you had in high school?
I still talk to some of them once in a while. I see my best friend from high school around town and we talk when we run into each other. And once in a while I’ll see other people and we chat. However I am not close friends anymore with anyone from my high school.
My friend and I were going to cosplay as hipster Apple Bloom and Twilight Sparkle for Fanime but because I don't have a wig she's going to be Ireland and I'm going to be Seychelles. Hopefully we see you and Nova on Saturday.^___^
I don’t think i’ve ever seen an Ireland cosplayer before, and I know that I’ve never seen a Seychelles! I’m stoked to see you two cosplaying as them :) Hope to see you at Fanime! 8D
Hey Twin. I've got a bit of a dilemma. I'm bisexual, and I've been sitting on it for a while, waiting to get up the courage to tell my parents. My mum is aware that I've been in a relationship with another girl, but she didn't really believe me and treated it like I was just confused and it wasn't real. Then recently, the subject of gay marriage came up with my parents. We had never really talked about it before, but I discovered that both of my parents are strongly against it and... Continued..
And maybe a bit homophobic. So now I’ve lost all faith in them, I’m afraid they won’t support me if they find out. But I guess they will sooner or later…I just don’t want to be so disappointed in them, or worse feel like they are disappointed in /me/.
Parents can have some pretty odd strategies for dealing with LGBT kids, whether they are conscious or unconscious. A common one is denial, in which they assume that it’ll “pass”. And in all honesty this one is pretty “meh”. Your sexuality may change, who knows how long you’ll be with any partner for whether it’s heterosexual or homosexual. Another one is the “if I show any support I’ll encourage it” or “stamp out the gay” (not that these have official names, I’m just describing the general idea). In this way, if your parents know/feel that you are bi they may be taking extra strides toward deterring you from that. This does not mean that they will hate you if you come out. They might be disappointed, but fact is that it’s your life and they will have to adjust to that. Many parents react badly initially, but their initial reaction is not their final one.
That being said, you have a choice on whether or not you want to come out to them. Your sexuality is nobody’s business but your own. If you do choose to come out and you feel that it is unsafe (or if it gets unsafe) it may be wise to communicate with a friend or relative sympathetic to you who would be able to let you stay at their place if things don’t go well or turn sour.
After personally witnessing homophobic parents come to tolerate their child’s homosexual relationship, I can say that parents can surprise you.
When you had your female body, did you cosplay characters from all genders? And now that you're male, would you be ok with doing the same, or are you only comfortable with cosplaying male characters? I don't mean to sound accusatory or anything, I'm just curious :)
Pre-transition, I cosplayed mostly male characters, I did a female character here and there (currently only 5 come to mind). Only one of those was a character that I actually selected myself (Uranus), the other ones (Raimei, Rin, Kagome and Yuiko) were spots to be filled in the group cosplays we did for those series but I grew to love those characters anyway :)
There is still one female character that I really want to cosplay, but I’m not sure I can/would feel comfortable doing that anymore. I also don’t think I can pull off female characters, my body and face have changed a lot. Crossdressing is something that kinda triggers me now as well. Anyway, we’ll see if I ever end up doing that XD
Hi luke, (can I call u luke? Too late already have;)) wow, there's so much I wanna ask u... Ok well, do u ever get angry or upset when people use the wrong pronouns or name? Cause I have a friend who recently came out as a transgender male and I keep accidentally calling him 'her' and I'm scared that I'm really upsetting her absent mindedly...
Yeah, Luke’s just fine :)
Unless they know about my past and are doing it on purpose to upset me/belittle me I haven’t had anyone use the wrong pronoun in over a year now… I know that at first it was hard, but there is an adjustment period and people can only try their best. It took your friend some time to get to where he is now, so understandably you should be allowed transition time too. Just correct yourself, and move on. As time passes it will get easier :)
I saw your answer to anons question about skin color in cosplay. I just want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH. I am Indian and cosplay mainly male character whom are light-skinned or white, and I get HORRIBLE people on youtube who berate me for it. thankfully I have a friend who instills confidence in me, but it hurts when people constantly refer to you as "black (insert character's name here), and you know they mean it to be nasty. Being called someone's nightmare just makes it worse too, So thank you!
I’m sorry that people send you nasty messages (especially someone’s “nightmare”… that’s just ridiculous).
Keep that confidence up! I know it can certainly be tough at times, and again i’m sorry that people send nastiness to you. Cosplay is an artistic hobby, and like any art it is completely subjective as to what looks “good” or “bad”. My favourite Katara cosplayer may be someone else’s least favourite. All in all the only thing that matters is how much fun you have making and wearing the cosplay and seeing the work that you have done :)
For the anon from earlier: As a POC cosplayer, my opinion is that you should definitely cosplay whoever and whatever you would like. That being said, Lucas is right, Be considerate don't photoshop yourself black or use ridiculous amounts of tanner. And if you post your pictures online, don't be surprised if you get backlash. I still get messages about how my pictures "don't look right" because I'm brown. This can be difficult to deal with if you haven't before. Best of luck with your cosplay! :D
I was wondering, would you ever come to any smaller cons in Canada like Hal-con in Nova Scotia or Animaritime in New Brunswick?
If we had the ability to go, then yes! For sure! But as per usual travelling to cons for us depends on cons inviting us to attend. I can only hope that it will happen or that it becomes something we can afford someday :)
Hi twin! I was wondering what your opinion was on people cosplaying characters of different race/skin tone. I've really wanted to cosplay some tan/darker skinned characters but I'm super white, and I've been hearing a bunch of stuff about "white washing" and I honestly just don't know how to feel about the whole thing.
I cosplay characters of a different race all the time. Mamoru from Sailor Moon? Definitely meant to be a Japanese guy. I’m not Japanese. My favourite Kite (.Hack) of all time is a black cosplayer, Kite’s character is portrayed as Caucasian. My favourite Tiger (Tiger and Bunny) is also portrayed by a black cosplayer. Fran, a character who has dark-skin, was cosplayed very well by a friend of mine who used tanner on her skin to give it a darker tone.
Skin colour, race, height, weight, age and gender shouldn’t stop you from portraying a character that you love.
With that said, be mindful of some practices that have roots in racial bigotry. I’m thinking about “blackface” primarily.
That’s my opinion, and admittedly it is an opinion of a person with white privilege, so if anyone else has input on this feel free to message me or comment :)
I have to do a school report on the person I look up to most... Is it okay if I use you? You have been my inspiration for years, and it only seems fitting, but I wanted to make sure it was fine with you first...
Yeah of course! I’m honoured that you even want to do a project on me! Thank you! That means a great deal :)
Hello! My names Casey :D im a big fan of yours! If you could, would you come to more conventions in England? Like MCM Expo in London or Manchester? I would love to meet you :) love the Kingdom Bros by the way lol XD x
Hello Casey :)
Our convention attendance, especially outside of our immediate area, depends on invites to conventions. The reason we get to go to Alcon is because the con graciously invites us, same with Banzaicon in Norway. We’d love to go to more cons in England, but it’s not something that we can currently make happen on our own. I wish we could! Hope to meet you someday!
And thank you! I’m so happy to hear that you enjoyed the first episode of Kingdom Bros ;)
Hey twin! I have 2 questions. 1: How did you come up with twinfools? 2: how do you get your wigs to fit so nicely and naturally?? I have a few wigs and they all fit well but they never look right. It can't be my hair because it's really short and not that thick, so what could it be?? By the way you're one of the most awesome and inspirational people I've ever known!! Plus youre really handsome! :p
1. It was just a spur of the moment thing. My old username was equinoxx, and I wanted something new so I essentially just combined my two favourite words at the time. I have “favourite words” once in a while, not so much for their meaning but for their sound or the look of them when they’re written down. I took “twin” and “fool” and made twinfools. Later on i realized that the name linked up to my starsign (Gemini) but that was more or less accidental XD
2. You could try tightening the headstraps at the back, but another issue could be that your wigs aren’t trimmed down enough. If I wig has too much hair/spikes are too long it may look bulky on your head. If the sideburns of a wig are not laying flat and are making the wig look off in that respect try using spirit gum to literally stick the sideburns to your face.
Thank you very much! I’m honoured that you think that way about me 8D Thank you so much! But I’m really just another cosplayer who enjoys derping around XD there’s nothing I can do that anyone else can’t do as well :)
